Role Description

ROLE DEFINITION

SDET , (Software Development Engineer in Test), is a hybrid of a software tester and a developer to automate the testing itself.

Traditional software testers who manually test code are typically given the title Quality Assurance Analyst or Quality Control Engineer, and they customarily work in separate departments from the regular software engineers

The SDET must be able to automate processes for thorough testing and develop code on his/her own

Responsibilities and Duties

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The SDET Engineer encapsulates several specific responsibilities including:
  • Develop software solutions to agreed timescales, standards and KPIs. Inform the PMO function immediately about any and all events that may affect delivery to these criteria.
  • Build on extant abilities in web service development using the appropriate languages and technologies, including VB.NET,C#.NET and ASP.NET, demonstrating a desire to work to expert level
  • SOAPUI, API testing should be handy to have
  • Ensure that the appropriate quality of development and documentation is achieved through the understanding and adoption of best practices in appropriate software development techniques, including coding standards.
  • Build and maintain test scripts using an automation test tool including TDD/BDD techniques
  • Create test automation frameworks
  • Select and develop appropriate test automation tools, applying the latest techniques in test automation
  • Use risk driven techniques
  • Work with the Development team to capture and re use automated unit test cases, stubs, drivers and other development test objects
  • Work with the development team to create and maintain an automated nightly test pack
  • Ensure proper trace ability, version control and configuration management of all test objects developed
  • Report progress and provide any test metrics or reports required to support the Test Manager/Lead Accurately and comprehensively record defects discovered during execution of test cases
  • Prepare test data and test estimates
  • Report issues and risks to the Test Manager/Lead Provide support and knowledge to other members of the team
  • Provide timely and accurate estimates for delivery of projects, BAU requests and bugs.
  • Work within a mixed environment; understanding of Agile and Waterfall methodologies where appropriate.
  • Strive continually to improve the efficiency of company processes, through the most appropriate use of technology.
  • Make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT Software.
  • Liaise with appropriate technical contacts to create new solutions and improve existing ones.

Software Dev Engineer Test (SDET)

Main Duties and Responsibilities:-

• Works closely with clients and Product Owners to continually refine software test requirements and provide feedback on user scenarios

• Works closely with Scrum team members to clarify requirements, ensure testability and automatability, to provide feedback on design (functional and technical)

• Contributes to impact assessments from Feature enhancements on system level interactions, and existing automated test suites

• Conducts In-sprint Test Design, Test planning Test automation development, and Test execution and Participates in Test Case Reviews

• Conducts Manual Testing, and uses Exploratory Testing to uncover weaknesses in their test approaches

• Writes automated tests for high availability and highly scalable applications which will be used by both internal and external customers.

• Provides Test consultation to Scrum team members to assist them in developing robust Unit Test suites

• Works closely with the global development team, Solution Architects, and the Online Product Engineering group to plan ongoing infrastructure needs, feature development, product maintenance, and management of development teams

• Logs defects and make recommendations to address defects. May conduct performance and scalability testing

• Development responsibilities include doing code review / bug analysis, analyzing development and test impacts, writing test tools and identifying automation opportunities

Essential Skills and Experience:-

• 7 years of related experience testing web portals using Microsoft technologies

• 7 years of experience in various phases of testing, designing, and developing complex enterprise applications, including automation test development.

• Expertise in the following – Selenium Webdriver, Web API (MS ASP.Net), MVC

• Practical knowledge in analyzing, designing, and developing solutions to highly complex problems and Practice in Agile Scrum methodology

• Familiar with Unit Test, Mock, Test Driven Development etc.

• Ability to perform system-wide root cause analyses and drive improvements

Preferred:-

• Assist and support the test lead in creation of Test estimates
